Over the past week, Knoxvillians have slogged through sleet, snow, and now, sludgy rivers running through city streets.
Two water main breaks have shut down roads in recent days: one in Fort Sanders on Monday and another near Chilhowee Park yesterday morning. Knoxville Utilities Board crews have been on-site making repairs.
So, what’s behind the breaks? Prolonged cold temperatures can stress aging water mains, causing them to crack. While crews can repair the pipe itself during cold snaps, permanent road repairs must wait for warmer weather. For now, crews fill the excavation with gravel and apply a temporary asphalt patch until conditions allow for a full restoration.
Wake up and smell the coffee — it’s your last chance to grab donuts at Status Dough. The Kingston Pike shop will close permanently after today, ending a nine-year run.
