Roasts to boast

Mahalo Coffee Roasters, 1317 E. Emory Rd. + 513 Union Ave. | Nascar driver Trevor Bayne opened this roastery in 2019 as a way to bring a little West Coast magic to the east. Inspired by Hawaiian culture, you can expect light to medium roasts to fill up your cup.

Vienna Coffee Co., locations vary | How did this Maryville-based coffee roaster begin? With a popcorn maker + a dream in 2002. Now, the business has expanded and continues to pour fresh and sustainable batches of coffee — using solar energy at its roastery and coffeehouse.

Honeybee Coffee Co., 700 Sevier Ave. + 10716 Kingston Pike | From a small coffee farm across the globe to your cup, this spot took its Airstream trailers + parked them in more permanent locations in 2017. For our at-home drinkers, try the sampler box to decide your favorite roast.

Three Bears Coffee Co., online | When purchasing beans from this roaster, each batch has its own unique characteristics based on origin, variety, and processing techniques. Want to meet the maker? Head to the Market Square Farmers Market.

Likewise Coffee, 1209 E. Magnolia Ave. | This place will make you feel at home with its comfy furniture + is owned by Raising a Voice, an anti-trafficking nonprofit. Follow the shop on Instagram to see when a new seasonal menu drops.

Remedy Coffee, 800 Tyson St. | Your coffee mug will be filled with regular rotating roasts at this third-wave coffeehouse. Located across from a graveyard, these baristas stay on theme with seasonal drinks — see what fall drinks they served last year while we wait for the new lineup to drop.

Perfect for a date

Cultivate Coffee + Flowers, 5221 N. Broadway St. | You can skip the flower shop on your way to pick up your date — order a cup of coffee and build a bouquet together, right in the store.

Coffee & Chocolate, locations vary | Chocolate, a girl’s best friend — whether it’s the artisanal French macarons + truffles or the warm drinks, this cozy shop has it all.

Hummingbird Apothecary, 3726 Sevier Heights Rd. + 3716 Walker Blvd. | Woman-owned and operated, you can expect a menu featuring teas, herbal mocktails, espresso drinks, elixirs, and more at this shop. The couches also make for the perfect spot to get to know each other.

Petty Coffee, 215 Brookview Centre Way | This time, it’s okay to be petty at this coffee shop that opened earlier this summer, serving lattes, frappes, teas, and more. Bonus: UTK students can bring their school IDs for $1 off their order, plus there’s free Wi-Fi.

Camp Honey Coffee & Provisions, 5819 Lyons View Pike | This new shop has it all — from delicious drinks to a market selling flowers, books, home goods, and more (plus, an expansion is already planned). Don’t miss the food menu; I personally would order the parfaits topped with Noke’s Granola (one of my favorite Chattanooga businesses).

Primo Passo Coffee Co., 2099 Thunderhead Rd. | From Santa Monica, CA to our mountain city, this newly opened shop creates its lattes with syrups made in-house — we’re sipping the brown sugar cinnamon latte. Pro tip for the coffee fanatics: Join the PPC Coffee Club.
