From the responsibilities of its elected officials to how Knoxvillians can get involved, here’s everything you need to know about local government in the 865.

It’s officially 2026, and almost a third of Americans make New Year’s resolutions to get their year started right.

If you’re one of them, keep reading. Here are some common resolutions paired with local resources to help you stick to your goals.

Cook more meals at home

The Cutting Edge Classroom offers adult cooking classes on subjects ranging from Korean BBQ to artisan sourdough. Pro tip: feed two birds with one scone and get in time with the kids by booking a family class.

Clean out your home

The City of Knoxville has a handy online resource for where to donate items like appliances, books, clothing, and bicycles. A little too “well-loved” to be donated? The city also offers specialty recycling.

Nurture creativity

Pottery studio Mighty Mud offers workshops, one-night events, and six-week courses for those interested in dabbling in ceramics. Pro tip: Book early, as these classes often sell out in advance.

The easiest — and free-est — way to expand your mental library is to sign up for a library card. Apply for one online.
