Get ready to vote. The City of Knoxville Primary Election is on Tuesday, Aug. 26, but early voting has already begun.
This primary election is a step in filling open seats in Knoxville City Council. Voters will select two candidates from each district to appear on this year’s general election ballot on Tuesday, Nov. 5.
Voters will vote for candidates to represent their district, and there are openings in City Districts 1, 2, 3, 4 + 6. This is the first time in decades voters will only be able to vote for candidates in their district of residence.
Note: Candidate Jane George will appear on the District 4 ballot, but she has dropped out of the race.
Early voting
If you plan to vote ahead of election day, sites will be open Wednesday, Aug. 6 through Thursday, Aug. 21. There are six early voting locations, so check online before going to cast your ballot.
Pro tip: Hours vary by day, so double check the hours before you head out. Sites are always closed on Sundays.
Election Day
If you are voting on Election Day, you can use the city’s interactive map to find your polling site. On this day, polls are open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Absentee voting
If you’re unable to vote in-person, you can print + submit an absentee ballot by mail, fax, or email. These ballots must be submitted 10 days before Election Day: In the case of the City of Knoxville Primary Election, that’s Saturday, Aug. 16.

- You will need to show an ID, so make sure you have an acceptable form of identification.
